Drawing inspiration from Song Dynasty miniature paintings, the workshop emphasized detail, harmony, and storytelling\u2014hallmarks of <em>Gongbi<\/em>, or meticulous-style painting.<\/p>\n<p>With plain <em>xuan<\/em> paper as her canvas, Professor Zhang demonstrated core techniques such as outlining and layering, patiently guiding participants through \u201cthree alum applications and nine layers of dye.\u201d The atmosphere was contemplative yet electric, with Thai students and lecturers leaning in to observe the delicate movements of brush and ink.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis immersive, hands-on approach allowed us to deeply appreciate the Chinese pursuit of detail and calm beauty,\u201d said one Thai faculty member. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t just a painting class\u2014it was a cultural meaning. Professor Zhang introduced traditional Chinese symbols\u2014plum blossoms, orchids, bamboo, chrysanthemums, birds, and insects\u2014explaining their artistic, seasonal, and spiritual significance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had no idea that a single flower or bird could carry so much Chinese wisdom,\u201d one Thai student shared during the session.
