River\u2019s recent acceptance into the distinguished<strong> Policy Dialogue Lab (PDL)<\/strong>, led by <a href=\"https:\/\/ispmyanmar.com\/\">the Institute for Strategy and Policy (ISP) \u2013 Myanmar<\/a>, is evidence of his commitment to leadership, education, and social change.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 120%;\"><strong>ISP \u2013 A Catalyst for Change<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nEstablished in 2016, ISP-Myanmar is a respected think tank dedicated to promoting democracy, governance, and social development through policy research, capacity building, and leadership initiatives. The Policy Dialogue Lab aims to equip young leaders like River with the knowledge and skills to address complex challenges, particularly in education and community resilience within conflict-affected areas. ISP\u2019s mission aligns with AU \u2018 s ethos of cultivating globally minded individuals who champion positive change.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 120%;\"><strong>River\u2019s Contribution to Sustaining Education Amid Conflict<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nOne of River\u2019s key contributions to the PDL is his impactful research paper, titled <strong><em>&#8220;Challenges for Sustaining Community-Based Schools in Conflict-Affected Areas&#8221;<\/em><\/strong> The study examines the vital role of community-based schools in Myanmar\u2019s conflict zones, where formal education systems have been disrupted by ongoing military coups and economic instability.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 120%;\"><strong>In his paper, River highlights:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cWithout community-based schools, many students in conflict-affected areas would lose their right to education entirely. These schools are a lifeline, but they face tremendous challenges, from teacher shortages to insufficient funding and minimal external support.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>River\u2019s work sheds light on the resilience of local youth who, despite adversity, have established schools to provide education to young revolutionaries. Yet, as River notes, the persistence of these schools is precarious:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cVolunteer teachers, struggling to support their families, often take on other jobs to survive. This leads to teacher shortages, putting the sustainability of these schools at significant risk.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 120%;\">A Multifaceted Leader<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nRiver\u2019s journey to this point is marked by diverse achievements and contributions. An accomplished student who attended Yangon University of Education after earning a Diploma in Teacher Education, he has demonstrated excellence in academics, leadership, and social impact. Among his many accomplishments are winning multiple debate and language proficiency awards, organizing mental health awareness programs for youth, and serving as a language instructor with a focus on active learning methods. His professional experience includes conducting educational research, data analysis, and training over 2,000 students and teachers through leadership programs.<\/p>\n<p>River\u2019s passion for youth development and education extends beyond his academic work. As the founder of the \u201cLo Nay Thu Ko Hmya Lo Ku\u201d campaign, he has spearheaded efforts to provide stationery and resources to orphanage schools, embodying his belief in equitable access to education.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 120%;\"><strong>Policy Recommendations: A Vision for Change<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nRiver\u2019s research goes beyond identifying challenges, offering actionable solutions to sustain these vital institutions.
